Chase Announces Two New Business Credit Cards: Should You Get One?

By: Ed Vegliante

Chase recently announced the release of two new credit cards for the business community. The Chase Platinum Business card and the Chase Business Rebate Card are now available, giving business people more options and a better deal than what they can get through ordinary business cards. Are these cards worth getting? More importantly, do they offer to your business a reason to switch? Let’s examine the new cards and what they have to offer to you, the business person.

There are business credit cards that adequately meet most business owners’ needs while there are other cards that really stand out. The two new credit card offerings from Chase are a pair of stand out performers.

Quarterly Management Reports

To help busy card holders, Chase’s two new cards share a common feature: they offer quarterly management reports for free. This is especially helpful when you consider that businesses must account for how their money is spent when it comes to tax time. By utilizing the management reporting feature, businesses can readily document important tax deductions. No worrying that something has been overlooked; the reports do the tracking for you. Less work for your busy accountants too!

0% Intro APR

Both the Chase Platinum Business Card and the Chase Business Rebate Card offer a fixed 0% APR for the first twelve billing cycles. This feature is especially helpful to the business needing the convenience of a credit card without worrying about paying off a large balance every month. New business owners are attracted to such a feature as the 0% introductory APR can relieve some of the pressure of financing a new entity.

Big Credit Lines

One of the toughest parts of starting a new business is securing an affordable line of credit. Your bank may offer terms, but those double digit rates can be a real turn off, especially if your cash flow is limited. The Chase Business Card and the Chase Platinum Business Card solve this problem by offering huge credit lines up to $35,000. You can save hundreds if not thousands of dollars in interest payments for the first year if you elect to go with a Chase card vs. the typical bank loan.

Important Ingredients

Both Chase cards offer no annual fee and have important balance transfer offers.

Distinguishing Features

As much as the two new cards have similarities to them, they each have a distinguishing feature. With the Chase Platinum Business Card you get additional benefits including $1 million dollar travel insurance, $3,000 lost luggage insurance, and more. With the Chase Business Rebate Card you can get as much as 3% cash back on select purchases. When you take a client out to eat, purchase supplies at the office or building supply stores, or fuel up your car, Chase rewards kick in when you use your card. For all other purchases the rewards rate is 1%.

Of course, the biggest decision for you is which card to select. Both cards come equipped with many useful features and are certain to attract customers who need a business card that works so well for them. Compare the offers and select the one that meets your needs and start benefiting from your new Chase business card today!

Business Credit Cards - Building Your Business's Credit

By: Carrie Reeder

Business credit cards are useful for both new and established businesses. Credit cards are very convenient for purchasing office supplies or funding company trips. Because a good number of business owners are responsible, they also use credit responsibly. There are several advantages of business credit cards. Here are three reasons why a business account is beneficial to your business

Business Credit Cards: Steady Stream of Income

All businesses, especially seasonal businesses, have periods of slow sales. Furthermore, it may take a new business several months before grossing a sizeable return. During these transitional times, a business credit account will offer a continual flow of cash to cover expenses.

The majority of credit cards have a line of credit. Business owners can withdraw funds as needed. The money can be used to purchase equipment, supplies, advertisements, etc. For this reason, a business credit account can be considered a convenient investor.

Building a Businesses Credit History and Rating

Smart business owners know the value of their company being a separate entity. Hence, establishing company credit is extremely useful. Instead of constantly applying for company credit cards in your personal name, think about obtaining accounts in your company's name.

It takes time to build a company's credit. For a company to establish a good credit history, business owners must maintain regular payments and establish a good relationship with creditors. Moreover, business owners should closely monitor the company's credit account. Any negative remarks will reflect on the business owner's credit report.

Accurate Management of Business Expenses with a business credit card

When using a business credit account, all transactions are easy to trace. If you are self-employed or operating a small business, you must accurate document your income and expenses. This is necessary for tax purposes.

When companies rely on a checkbook or cash for purchases, there is room for errors and missed transactions. Thus, some business owners have a hard time calculating expenses at the end of the year. However, when a business credit card is used for major and small purchases, a business owner can easily track company expenses. Simply maintain copies of monthly credit card statements or request quarterly summaries from your credit card company.

Low Interest Business Credit Cards

Low Interest Credit Cards - Make Sure You Have The Cheapest Rate

By: Joseph Kenny

Making sure that you pay the lowest rate of interest chargeable on your credit card usage is vital if you want to maintain an effective money management scheme. As such, knowing how to make sure you pay the lowest interest rate on your credit card should be viewed as an essential element to deciding which credit card you should select.

As we all know, credit card companies are not in the business of giving away a free service and one of the ways in which they make a big part of their income is charging interest on any balance you carry-over from one payment period to another. Although this interest is charged monthly, interest accrues on interest and consequently credit card companies are required (in most cases by consumer law) to advertise their interest rates not as a monthly sum, for example 1.9%, but rather as annual figure, for example 22%. Because the interest rate advertised is calculated over the period of a year, it is known as the Annual Percentage Rate, or APR for short, and is the quickest way of telling which credit card company charges the lowest rate of interest for using their card.

Having said this, there are a couple of additional things you need to keep in mind when comparing the APR advertised by different card issuers, namely:

Annual Fees

Does the issuer you are considering using charge any annual membership fees? This is an important question because some issuers can ‘hide’ fees payable for using their card in the form of an annual fee. Indirectly this allows them to lower their APR comparable to those issuers who do not charge membership fees. However, when you include the membership fee as part of the interest rate, often the amount you are being charged is higher than if you had decided to use the services of a provider that charged a slightly higher APR, but no annual membership fee.

Credit Rating

Your credit rating will affect the interest rate you pay on nearly all your borrowing and a credit card is no different in this regard. If you have a good credit rating, you should be expecting to pay less APR. Conversely, if you have a bad credit rating, you should not be too surprised if you find that you are being asked to pay a higher APR.

Default

It would be hard to emphasis how important making at least the minimum repayment on your credit card each month is. If you do not, you will likely find that your provider will increase the rate of interest you are being charged on your account. Sometimes this can occur even though it may not have been your fault that the payment was made late, for example you made the payment but it was received late, and without the provider being required to inform you that this default caused the interest rate on your credit card to change. It is, therefore, imperative that you read the small print of any application form you complete to check and see if the interest rate will change because of any non-payment or late payment and if the issuer will be obligated to inform you that the interest rate has changed.

Of course, the only way to make sure that you pay no APR on your credit card usage is to ensure that you clear your credit card balance each statement payment date. Unfortunately, however, most of us are cannot afford the luxury of paying off our credit balance each statement period and the card issuers know this. So, to make sure you are paying the lowest APR possible, read the fine print of the application form and make sure there are no hidden extra fees or charges and that the rate of interest you are paying really is the card’s advertised APR!

Knowing Your Predatory Credit Card Companies

By: Michael Russel

For a number of credit card consumers, lending options are widely available. However for individuals with bad credit, the options are few and far between. With this in mind, lenders may take advantage of individuals who have problems repaying debt. These organizations typically target people with tarnished credit, elderly, or low-income individuals. Predatory lending for credit cards companies are becoming rampant thanks to the ease of targeting certain demographics and markets.

Predatory lending is a practice that provides unreasonable rates and fees for bad credit consumers. They offer high interest rates and, often, high fees for each credit that they sell to the borrower. By doing so, the repayment amount becomes too steep - or fees become unusually high for the average cardholder.

For people with tarnished credit scores, careful consideration should be taken for “bargain loans”. Bargain loans are programs that promise that an individual’s tarnished credit isn’t a problem. The offers are often labeled as a “limited time” offer and consumers are enticed to quickly apply. In many instances, the lenders offer instant approval or even guaranteed approval for their card application.

Interestingly, it’s illegal for lenders to require payment of fees before a loan is actualized. If this happens, the borrower should immediately report this to the proper agencies. There are plenty of scam operations that charge a huge fee and then not offer the loan to the applicant.

Before applying for such a loan, the applicant should check to see the terms of the credit card before signing the dotting line. One should verify that the terms of agreement is the same as what was discussed with a sale representative.

Individuals with bad credit should try to determine if the lender is a trustworthy company. One can simply ask for references from the lender, or contact the Better Business Bureau for any complaints. Sometimes information about the lender can be found by a simple search in a search engine like Google. News or complaints by customers on popular websites such as ripoff.com can raise red flags. There are even forums for credit cards that have opinions and complaints from cardholders.

Card applicants should shop around as well. The consumer should look at the rates and fees for each credit card and assess which one is right. Sometimes customer service is an important factor. Ask for the customer service hours and service quality.

Credit cards can also come in the form of a secured card. In other words, you would need to provide collateral such as cash to get the credit card. For example, a $300 credit card limit will require you to upfront $300. However, if the credit card company requires that the collateral amount should be over the card limit, then it may be best to walk away from the program.

Predatory lenders also take advantage of the grace period. In fact, the lending company could issue the bill with a payment due date of the mail issue date. This means that by the time the recipient receives the bill, the bill will be already past due. The lender now has means to raise the rates and fees.

Consumers need to be aware of Credit card companies that are involved in predatory practices, especially consumers with bad credit. As more of these practices become apparent, consumers now have the means to arm themselves from such lenders.

Secured Business Credit Cards

Establishing Business Credit - Secured Business Credit Cards

By: David Gass

Many businesses now use corporate credit cards to pay their bills, particularly those between their suppliers or vendors and themselves. There are a number of products on the market that can meet these needs. They include the traditional credit card that accumulates a balance monthly and requires only a minimum monthly payment to keep the account up to date as well as procurement cards that are used by many companies to purchase small items or supplies. An example of a procurement card might be a gas card that allows employees to fill up the company vehicles.

But another form of credit card used by businesses is called a secured business credit card. The difference between a traditional credit card and a secured business credit card is that the latter requires a business to open and maintain a savings account that provides a backup to the creditor in the case of any defaults or missed payments by the borrower.

A secured business credit card can be used to pay for all the same services as a regular business card and in order to open one a bank or credit card company will require a savings deposit that can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. The business is then allowed to use the secured business credit card up to the level of this deposit, although some lenders put additional restrictions on the borrowing amounts depending on the credit rating of the business.

In addition there are normally application and processing fees for a secured business credit card that will cover the administrative costs of the application including any credit or reference checks that the lending institution may wish to carry out. These fees vary from lender to lender. A secured business credit card is also usually more expensive to use than a conventional credit card and often has an annual fee and carries a higher rate of interest than a traditional credit card.

The advantages of a secured business credit card are that it allows the business to continue to access the convenience of using a credit card, even if their overall credit rating or credit score is not that great. Even companies and individuals that have faced serious financial problems like loan defaults and bankruptcies are eligible to apply for a secured business credit card. Sometimes a secured business credit card can make the difference between business survival and their downfall because it lets the business pay vendors who are reluctant to advance any more supplies unless they have a guarantee of cash or a secured business credit card in their hands.

The other major advantage of a secured business credit card is that it allows a business to build or restore their business credit rating. Many financial reporting agencies look at the successful use of a secured business credit card as a step on the road to rehabilitating poor credit scores and in the long term can assist a business to recover its credit rating and its reputation.

Four Things You Need To Know About Secured Business Credit Cards

By: Max Anderson

If you are one of the business owners who hasn't considered what secured business credit cards can do for your business, you're not alone. Many entrepreneurs overlook the benefits of secured business credit cards. If your business's creditworthiness isn't as appealing to lenders as you would like it to be, you should consider these five facts.

1. Secured Business Credit Cards Aren't a Stigma

Some people think that applying for a secured card means lowering themselves to a lesser financial standard. What many people fail to realize is that secured cards aren't just for people with damaged credit, these cards are also for people who have not yet been able to build a credit history at all. This applies to secured business credit cards too.

Applying for secured business credit cards doesn't mean that your business has failed in any way whatsoever. What it means is that your business is in the infancy stages of building a solid financial history. Secured business credit cards can play an important role in this stage of your business.

2. Secured Business Credit Cards Aren't a Rip-Off

Yes, it's true that some secured credit cards abuse their card holders and charge ridiculous interest rates and unwarranted fees. However, not all secured cards are alike. There are many secured business credit cards that charge nominal annual fees and reasonable interest rates. It's just a matter of shopping around and finding the one that's right for you.

3. It's Your Little Secret

If you're afraid that you'll be embarrassed when you pay for business purchases with a secured card, you'll be relieved to know that secured business credit cards aren't really decipherable from unsecured cards. It's not like the credit card companies put "Secured" in big bold type across the front of the card.

Secured business credit cards are actually quite discreet. The only people who will know your business credit card is a secured card are you and your credit card company.

4. It's Not The End

While secured business credit cards may not be your idea of an ideal financial tool for your business, you have to understand that they are a means to an end, not the end itself.

When considering secured business credit cards, it is important to remember that they are the beginning of the road, not the end of it. Your business will only need a secured card until your credit history is established. Depending on the growth of your business and the industry it is in, it may only be six to twelve months before your business qualifies for an unsecured credit card.

Electronic Credit Card Processing

By: Thomas Morva

The success of an online business depends on the process of accepting credit card payments. This type of payment permits you to attract both impulsive buyers and casual surfers alike. It also guarantees that you get timely payment.

Electronic credit card processing facilities handle orders directly through the Internet. This is normally a complex deal that needs the coordination of many things such as your website, your consumer?s credit card company, a payment gateway, and an account into which credits are deposited. Electronic card processing is safe and secure, and it provides the best customer service.

Three major types of electronic credit card processing are available. The first type uses a virtual machine that allows manual addition of mail. The second type involves a simple integration technique that links your site directly to the credit card and bank system. The third type uses a means for custom-linking your system to other more complex systems using a transaction gateway server.

Credit cards can be processed either in real-time or in a collective manner (batch processing). Electronic credit card processing generally has excellent real-time processing speed. The business is processed instantly and the consumer knows whether or not his card is accepted. But real-time processing has greater risk of fraud, since anybody can use a stolen card before it is reported stolen. Another disadvantage is that you cannot accept any order when the electronic credit card processor's server fails. Batch processing is ideal for smaller businesses. Here, many credit card transactions are processed jointly at a later time. The risk of fraud is moderately low.

Today, many companies offer fast, reliable and safe electronic credit card processing services. Each will work with almost all major credit cards, including Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Discover.

0% Interest Credit Card Balance Transfers

By: Morgan Hamilton

Though most 0% interest credit card balance transfers are conducted by individuals, businesses can also take part in this balance bargain. Several credit card providers offer 0% interest credit card balance transfer to businesses. Let's take a look at a couple of these business offers.

The first, a Mastercard, offers 0% interest credit card balance transfers for the first fifteen months. This interest rate applies only to the transfers - not to any purchases made during the introductory period. The annual percentage rate (APR) for the purchases is low however - a good 7.99 percent. The computation for the APR is based on the average daily balance that includes any new buys. There is no annual fee, and this card offers a credit line up to $50,000. The grace period on this 0% interest credit card balance transfers offer is 25 days, and there is no setup or transfer fee.

This business credit card carriers a maximum late fee charge of $39, with a minimum of $15, depending on the balance at the due date. The fee for charges over the credit card limit also caps at $39. With this credit card offering 0% interest on credit card balance transfers, there are no travel, shopping or cash rebate offers.

Another of the 0% interest business credit cards offering balance transfers charges an annual fee of $75 and a $35 charge for any additional credit card issued on the account. It does, however, waive the first year's fee if the credit card application is completed online. Late fees never exceed $30, however, there is no grace period at all. There is also an annual $30 fee for the program that offers membership rewards. These rewards include reports on expense management, an everyday savings program for purchases such as gas and groceries, and savings with designated merchants in the area of hotel, auto rental, computer equipment and overnight delivery.

The third of these business 0% interest credit card balance transfers offers gives five percent rebate on when you fill up at your favorite gas station, and a six month introductory period for balance transfers only. The credit line with this card could be as low as $1000 or as high as $50,000, with an APR approximately 10-18 percent dependent on the business' credit worthiness. How 0 Per Cent Balance Transfer Credit Cards Have Changed

By: Simon Duffy

The ever increasing debt levels in the UK mean that getting a credit card is becoming more difficult as time goes by. Getting a credit card with a good balance transfer deal is becoming even more difficult as lenders tighten up their lending criteria.

It happened to me a few months ago; I was looking into transferring a balance from my existing credit card to another. On applying by telephone with the new credit card company they told me that I could transfer a balance but it was only around 75% of the total balance I was looking to transfer. This was obviously not really any good for me because I didn’t want to end up splitting the balance transfer over 2 new credit cards because it would cost me 2 balance transfer handling fees and also because it just seemed like untidy financial management to me. So I looked elsewhere and on applying with another card company they were happy to transfer the entire balance from my other credit card.

Over the last few years the balance transfer deals have got better in one respect because the 0% offers now top 12 months, I think the best is around 15 months at 0% when transferring a balance. However in another respect the introduction of balance transfer handling fees combined with the reluctance to let customers almost automatically transfer any balance amount to a new credit card, means that these deals aren’t what they used to be.

Of course you couldn’t really expect the credit card companies to let people transfer balances from card to card with no charge, forever. Back in 2004 this is how it was! Often referred to now as ‘rate tarts, customers could simply transfer their existing credit card balance to a new company with no charge and benefit from 0% interest on the balance transferred for months on end. Then when the 0% period came to an end they simply went through the same process. I think it was something like 2 or 3 years, certainly late 2006 or early 2007 before the credit card companies started their balance transfer handling fee charges.

Now credit card companies are tempting new customers with low APRs for the life of the balance transferred. The idea is a low APR like 5 to 6% Typical, for the life of any balances you transfer, is reasonable compared to the average UK credit card APR of 16%. Also it makes life easier for customers who do not want to keep switching their credit card every year or more often.

It's Easy To Find A 0 Apr Credit Card

By: Christopher Luck

Millions of Americans have credit cards, using them almost every day for everything from mundane things like groceries to exciting purchases like vacations. But unless you already have a 0 APR Visa, Mastercard, or Discover credit card, chances are you’re still looking for one. Who wouldn’t want a credit card that offered 0 percent APR?

The APR is the annual percentage rate, and it determines how much interest you pay on your credit card. No-interest credit is the best, obviously; a credit card with no APR means you’re paying back only the amount you borrowed, with no additional charges. When the bank makes you a 0 apr credit card offer, you’re liable to jump at the chance! But you don’t need to wait for the bank or credit card company to come to you. You can get a 0% APR credit card yourself.

First you’ll need to check your credit score. The credit card companies are more likely to give you a low-repayment credit card as a “reward” for being a low-risk consumer. Get a copy of your credit report from one of the online sources available -- you’re entitled by law to one free credit report per year -- and see if there are any blemishes that might prevent you from getting a 0 APR credit card. You should check your report even if you’re sure you’ve never done anything to earn bad credit, because mistakes can creep into your report. The last thing you want is to be denied an interest-free credit card because of something you didn’t even do!

Once you’ve confirmed your credit report is solid, or done what’s necessary to clean it up, you can apply for a credit card with confidence. There are two ways you can go about getting no-interest credit. One is to approach your currentcredit card companies and request a lower interest rate. Tell them you’d like to do a balance transfer, point out your positive credit history, and ask for zero APR credit. Many times, they will give you 0 APR for a period of six months or a year, which is fine: Before the time is up, you can set up 0 percent APR on a different card and transfer the balance. If your credit stays good, you could move your balance from one card to another indefinitely, thus keeping 0 APR credit for the life of the loan.

Another option is to open new credit cards that have 0 APR offers. These are easily found online, and the 0 APR credit card is usually an “introductory” offer, which means it switches to a higher APR after six months or a year. The same procedure applies: Take advantage of the offer, and then transfer the balance to another 0 APR credit card before the time is up. Before you get any new credit cards, though, be sure to check into their policies on balance transfers. Some have different APRs for balance transfers as opposed to purchases.

With a little work and careful spending habits, it’s possible for anyone with good credit to get a 0 APR credit card. Why should the credit card company get all your hard-earned money with its fees and APRs? No-interest credit is the way to go. Good luck, and happy spending!

The Truth About 0% APR Credit Cards

By: Morgan Hamilton

The competition between credit card companies is getting fierce. Many credit card companies are offering special incentives to get you to sign up for their card. 0% APR is one deal that many credit card companies are using. These 0% APR credit cards often spell trouble for the consumer, though. There are special rules and limitations that apply which are usually hidden among legal wording in the small print.

While it is illegal for a credit card company not to disclose all fees and charges for their credit card, it is not illegal for them to put it in small print. Credit card companies are aware that many consumers do not even bother reading these paragraphs so they stick the truth about 0% APR deals in there. They make sure they announce in large, bold print that the card has 0% APR. This is very appealing because it is the APR or interest rates that often cause consumers to have credit card problems, so no interest seems like a great deal. Hidden in that small print, though, you will often find out that this is for a limited time or only applies to new purchases, not balance transfers. Once the limited time is up the APR usually sky rockets to a huge rate. Even worse, some consumers transfer balances thinking they will get a nice break from interest and be able to pay the balance down quick, only to find out the offer does not apply to the amount they transfer. Reading all the information provided with an offer is extremely important to avoid such problems.

There are other tricks to the 0% APR offer, too. Some cards offer 0% APR on balance transfers, but once that is paid off the APR goes up. The trick here is that any money you pay is applied to the transfer first so it is paid down quicker. Any other purchases you make are charged a high APR. Some credit card companies make up for the 0% APR by charging high annual fees or other high rate charges or they add a transfer fee charge. Many 0% APR deals are voided if you are late on a payment. Some companies have lowered the grace period which makes it easier to be late on a payment. Another quick trick is sending you a different card then the one you applied for and not offering the 0% APR on that card at all. Often in the small print on your application it will state the company can do this if you do not qualify for the card being offered. These are some ways the credit card companies can get out of the 0% APR offer.

The truth about 0% APR credit card offer is not as great as it may seem. Avoiding this trap is easy if you know where to look for the catches and exceptions. It is all up to you to weed out the good offers from the bad ones. Read everything before signing up for a credit card and should be able to avoid any problems.

By: Morgan Hamilton

Credit card companies are very competitive when it comes to getting you fill out their business credit card applications. Recently they have taken to offering incentives to people willing to open a credit account with them. The offers vary from card to card with some being better than others. Follows are descriptions of the five most common types of rewards programs offered by companies to capture your business.

Points and/or Miles Rewards

Almost every credit card company offers a business card with a point incentive or travel miles reward program. They're all based on the same principle. Your business will earn one mile (or point or whatever they want to call it) for each dollar you spend on credit. The points can then be used for a number of different things depending on the program. Some allow you to "purchase" gift cards, plane tickets, vacations, etc with the points.

Cash Back

Some credit cards offer a percentage of each purchase as cash back to the consumer. These cards are generally considered the best of the credit cards rewards but they can often be attached to higher interest cards, or worse, cards with an annual fee. Shop around in order to get the highest percentage cash back as possible. The average is about 3% for business credit cards. Before filling out the business credit card application, read the fine print to find out the percentage for the cash back rewards.

Discount On Frequently Used Services

Some credit card companies offer discounts to businesses on services their companies use frequently such as car rentals and hotel stays. These discounts may or may not be useful for your specific circumstances. With just a little research, you can probably find at least one discount that your business can use. All discounts should be clearly listed on the business credit card application under 'Terms'.

Pre-set Employee Spending Limits

Many business credit cards allow the person in charge to set individual limits on the additional employees cards. This can be helpful in delegating purchasing power without having to worry about overspending on the part of your staff.

Detailed Monthly Reports For Every Card

Each business credit card offers monthly statements for each card on the account. This is a major time saver for accounting purposes. It can also prove useful when designing a budget. By seeing where the majority of our money is going (in plain print), you're better prepared to know where to cut back for the success of your business.

Apply Online For A Credit Card To Get The Best Rates

By: Derek Smiley

With numerous banks and financial institutions scrambling to sell you their credit cards it is no wonder the customer has sought the saunctury of deciding to apply online for a credit card.

There are so many kinds of credit cards available in the market that a credit card user gets intimidated and perplexed about which card to choose. The result is that he often chooses the wrong card and then regrets his decision when he's already neck deep in problems with his credit card account.

So when making credit card applications here are some tips. Never pick up a credit card without considering some crucial factors. Here is a small guide that can help you decide which type of credit card you must pocket.

Guidelines to choosing a credit card

1. Ask yourself, "Why do I need a new credit card?" Is it because your current credit card carries a higher rate of interest, or is it because you want to use it exclusively for your business, or is there any other reason? Zero in on the reason why you need a new credit card. 0 interest credit cards may be the answer.

2. Once you have the reason, you must check out what kinds of credit cards are available in the market. Here is a brief dossier:

(i) Regular cards/Business cards are cards that give you a spending limit based on your income tax papers. The business card is just like a regular card, except that it comes with some schemes that dangle carrots before you.

(ii) Charge cards are cards that are linked to your bank account and they charge your account the minute you swipe the card. You cannot carry forward a balance with a charge card.

(iii) Reward cards are credit cards that earn you points every time you swipe them and such points are redeemable for some goodies (air tickets, supermarket goodies, etc.) at selected establishments.

(iv) Then there are cards for people who have a bad credit history. These cards carry a low spending limit and a higher rate of interest.

(v) Prepaid cards are another type of credit card that are mostly used by teens and some kids too. The parent makes a deposit and the card is valid until the deposit is used up.

(vi) Secured credit cards require that the cardholder deposit a certain percentage of the credit limit upfront into their bank accounts.

3. Once you have decided what kind of a credit card is right for you, do a comparison between different brands of cards. Compare their rates of interest (APR = Annual Percentage Rate) and also check whether they carry an annual fee, what grace period or no-payment period they offer you, how do they calculate the interest, whether the rate of interest is an introductory rate, whether rates of interest will vary on cash withdrawals, billing cycles, penalties on 0 balance transfers, and so on.

So, there you are! If you follow these basic guidelines when you apply online for a credit card, you will be successful in pocketing the right deal that suits your needs. And that is the easy part, the difficult part lies in maintaining a credit card and keeping your credit history clean.

But, that's another story!
